An in-depth 'sharing photographic heritage' project is going to take off in 2010. I hope to conduct research within a larger group of researchers, consisting of anthropologists, archivists, and institutions, on some photo collections made within anthropological, museological, and scientific contexts. Basically photographs, taken in East-Greenland by the Dutchmen Jacob van Zuylen (1932-1934) and Gert Nooter (1965-1970), will be 'digitally repatriated' to Greenland. The project will be set up as a collaborative, amongst others, between the Greenland Museum (Nuuk), Museon (The Hague), and the National Museum of Ethnology (Leiden).
>
By sharing selections of the original photographs on a collectively managed website, on cd-roms, in booklets, and in setting up a traveling exhibition, Greenlanders will retrieve parts of 'their' history, and of the histories of contact between them and the Dutch research enterprises.
>
The project is scheduled to run from 2010/11 thru 2013/14.
